London 2012

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) acts as a catalyst for collaboration between all parties of the Olympic family.

On this basis it ensures the regular celebration of the Olympic Games, supports all affiliated member organisations of the Olympic Movement and strongly encourages, by appropriate means, the promotion of the Olympic values.

The Challenge

Prior to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, the IOC required a highly reliable TourGuide System for multiple tours of varying group sizes, up to 100 strong.

The user audience were IOC observers, who would travel around all of the Olympic park and facilities as part of the ‘observer programme’ at the London Olympic Games.

It was necessary to hire the equipment from a proven company with the skills, service and support that the IOC required.

In addition they needed a supplier who could also provide solid after sales care such as training, support and maintenance of the system.

The Solution

Following a detailed review of the IOC’s requirements, a Sennheiser 2020 Digital TourGuide System was recommended and supplied on hire.

Tourguide-SYSTEMS project managed the delivery and user systems training - within the strict deadlines and timescales required by the IOC.

It was also important to provide a very high level of support during the games to ensure 100% up-time and usability.

The Benefits

Sennheiser HDE 2020D-II stethosets provided the most flexible receivers as they could be quickly issued and collected during hectic visitor schedules, across the multiple sites and venues. Up to six simultaneous tour groups were used at multiple locations over two-weeks. Fast charging was an essential requirement for this event and the automatic chargers for the Sennheiser devices quickly informed the operators when devices were ready to issue.
